PRODUCT OVERVIEW: Elegant and moisturizing; this broad spectrum sunscreen will help protect against the harmful affects of UVA and UVB rays. Should always be applied after skin care regimen and before makeup application. Can be mixed with any Serene lotion or cream to add SPF protection when sun exposure is unavoidable.

SUNSCREEN vs SUNBLOCK (SPF-Sun Protection Factor)

Sunscreen soaks into your skin and absorbs the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays before they damage the skin. Sunblock sits on top of the skin and reflects or physically blocks the sun’s UV rays before they reach the skin; think white zinc on a surfer’s nose

Easy way to remember what the rays do to your skin (shade does not protect you):/n‘A’ (aging) in UVA/n‘B’ (burning) in UVB/n/nLAYERING/nSunscreen and sunblock CANNOT be layered to increase protection

Layering does not increase the products SPF rating

REAPPLYING

Do not try to reapply sunscreen one layer on top of another in an effort to gain more protection. You might think this is adding protection but studies have shown this is not the case. If the first is not washed off with water activities or cleansing and then re-application on dry skin, then your not really applying it properly and the protection is not there as advertised. Sunscreen must be applied properly and on dry skin. Absorption is the key here for proper protection.

• Sunscreen CANNOT be reapplied on top of old sunscreen

• Sunblock CAN be reapplied on top of old sunblock

As stated, proper absorption (application) is key for proper protection, so take your time when applying and also choose a sunscreen that will protect you for the entire time period and time of day. If your going to be out from 11AM – 3PM the sun is at its strongest and you should apply the greatest strength you have (minimum SPF 30). During the sun’s strongest time period use the strongest SPF and try not to stay out for long periods of time. When you are trying to take care of your skin and or reverse damage done during the early years, sun avoidance is the best practice.

SPF RATINGS

A higher rating on protection does not give the same increase as you might think. The figures below show how the rate of increase from 15, 30 to 40 is actually only slightly higher in SPF protection.

SPF/UPF 15 provides protection against 92% of UV rays

SPF/UPF 30 provides protection against 97% of UV rays/nSPF/UPF 40 provides protection against 97.5% of UV rays
